Help- “to make it easier for (someone) to do something by offering one’s services or resources” (according to the New American Oxford Dictionary).
Technically, no one is owed help from anyone; to believe you are is called entitlement, something I’ll share more about in this week’s podcast. But when I observe people who have succeeded in life— financially, relationally, etc.— they have had some kind of help. Maybe it was a mentor, a helpful coworker, or a piece of advice or encouragement that carried them through a difficult time. But we need each other in order to do anything of significance in life.
Funnily enough, I’d rather not ask for help under any circumstance ever, lol. And in many ways, I will always encourage others and myself to do what we can of our own accord in order to make things happen. But my pride is no longer strong enough to combat what I have both experienced and observed: Interdependence seems to be healthier option, and we need each other. May we have the grace to give and receive the help we want and need.
